About Us

 Uriel Solar

Uriel Solar was founded by two Ph.D. physicists, Dr. James Garnett (CEO) and Dr. Peter Dingus (CTO) who were graduate students together at UC Berkeley in the 1980’s.

By late 2008, after long careers in high-tech businesses and a growing interest in renewable energy, Uriel's founders came to the same surprising conclusion: commercial solar power was not exploiting the full potential of a semiconductor material, i.e., cadmium telluride based alloys, that had long been the interest of commercial and military infrared companies.

After in-depth conversations with technical experts in the field of infrared, and the development of a detailed business plan, Uriel Solar was born. With the assistance of Mr. Mario Rosati, of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, one of the best-known law firms in the country for start-up high-tech ventures, Uriel Solar was incorporated in August 2008.

James Garnett

James Garnett

Dr. James Garnett, CEO (Ph.D. Physics, UC Berkeley), provides more than 20 years of management experience in the area of infrared detector array technology for aerospace. Dr. Garnett was senior department manager for the largest group within the Detector Operations segment of Teledyne Imaging Sensors before co-founding Uriel Solar in 2008. He has also worked for Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and Rockwell Science Center. In 2004, Dr. Garnett was presented the Congressional Space Act Award for groundbreaking work on the largest area, highest performance, mercury cadmium telluride infrared detector array in the world for space-based applications.

Peter Dingus

Peter Dingus

Dr. Peter Dingus, CTO (Ph.D. Physics, UC Berkeley), provides more than 15 years of high-tech management and executive experience for both large and startup firms. Past experience includes principal scientist and group leader at Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, Director of Technology at Millennia Software, VP of R&D at CrossMedia Networks, and CTO at Sound Advantage LLC. Dr. Dingus has led independent research projects in detector and algorithm design, published more than 40 papers, and given numerous talks. He co-founded Uriel Solar in 2008.
